Preliminary findings reported at the Scientific Sessions of the American College of Cardiology suggest that stem cells from mentrual blood may be a good source of cardiomyocytes (heart muscle cells), and may be a better source than bone-marrow derived stem cells. Endometrial stem cells were harvested from the stem cells of 6 women, after which researchers "were able to obtain 30 million stem cells from a single menstrual blood cell, compared with a rate of approximately one million stem cells from marrow-derived blood cell."
